Notes:

Notes on Temple Visits:

 Any Buddhist Temple or Stupa should be pass over clockwise. It is customary to eat, handle food, gifts money, etc with your right hand.

o    It is considerate impolite to

- Point the sales of one’s feet at any one or toward alters, holy objects, people or a family’s fire.

- Physically demonstrative in public – especially between people of the opposite sex.

o   Some temples allow Non – Hindus to enter the temple complex but have certain restricted areas.

o  Pashupatinath Temple does not allow Non-Hindus to enter the temple complex but allow viewing from a designated platform but they could easily witness cremation ceremony.

o Proper attire is required to visit the sacred sites. Full sleeves shirts and trousers are a must. Dress appropriately while visiting monasteries and temples.  Shoes must be removed prior to entering the temples.

o    Prior consumption of alcohol before a visit to a temple is strictly prohibited.

o    Kindly request for permission before taking photographs in a monastery. Some temples and monasteries may not allow the use of a camera flash. This is important for the preservation of the wall paintings.
